Perchance to Dream is a cyberpunk, dystopian musical of Hamlet told through the music of Radiohead. It takes place in a world much like our own, where algorithms replace human connection and creative expression is commodified.

Concert:

We held our premiere concert on 5/27/23 to a sold out, 400-person show at Pico Union Project in Los Angeles. It was covered by the LA Times, LAist (twice!), and CNN journalist David Daniel.

The concert was an abbreviated version of the full 2.5 hour show, which features 25 Radiohead songs along with the original Shakespeare text.

We also created a mobile VR installation that showed the audience concept sets and inspiration.

Here's our creative team explaining the concept behind No Surprises & How to Disappear Completely and the role they play in the show:

Concept

At the heart of this project is the belief that the intersection of art and technology can revolutionize live theatre. We envision a performance space where the audience is a part of the visual narrative through a light device that we've prototyped, inspired by arena concerts and Fireflies on the Water by Yayoi Kusama. Stylistically, we are inspired equally by 90s technoparanoia, punk culture, and Elizabethan fashion.

Creative Team

We are a collective of young artists who seek to push the boundaries of contemporary theatre, where the audience themselves are immersed in the story through the very technology that increasingly keeps us apart.

Dominique Star (concept, book, arrangement) is an actor, singer and musician with a background in music, theatre, and technology. She has performed with MIKA and along with acting, composes music for TV and Film.

David Su (musical direction, arrangement) is a recent graduate of the MIT Media Lab, where he studied under Tod Machover in the group Opera of the Future. He's particularly interested in how technology intersects with live performance, along with creating musical video games.

We're actively seeking to grow our team to help bring the full production to life. Especially if you are in Radiohead and/or named Thom Yorke. You lot are hard to reach.
